Summary: Tom Powers (Cagney) begins his life of crime at an early age with boyhood companion Matt Doyle (Woods). Powers' eventual rise to a notorious prohibiton gangster is only darkened when a rival gang brutally murders his friend. Powers tries to avenge Doyle's death, but his efforts lead to a chilling and savage conclusion.
