Soul survivor

Rawls, Johnny. (Author). Rawls, Johnny. (Credited).

Johnny Rawls is the "master of the genre" of soul/blues as BluesWax wrote in giving Soul Survivor a near perfect 9 out of 10. His last three albums have won Living Blues Soul Album of the Year, an unprecedented feat. All three were been nominated for Soul Album of the Year at the Blues Music Awards with Ace of Spades winning in 2010. Johnny started out over 40 years ago as a young sideman for blues greats and soon became the band director for O.V. Wright while still in his 20s. When Wright died, Rawls kept the band together to open for Little Johnny Taylor and to back him. Now, as a successful solo artist for the past three decades, he truly is a Soul Survivor. Still touring non-stop, he just gets better with each recording. He is again backed by his studio band, the Rays, with the Ivey Sisters singing background vocals. Soul Survivor was recorded at Sonic Ranch as were the last three, mixed by multiple Grammy winner Jim Gaines and mastered by 2012 Grammy winner Brad Blackwood. Great songs, great performances and world class production.

Soul survivor -- Hand me downs -- Eight men, four women -- King of hearts -- Long way from home -- Bad little girl -- Drowning -- Don't need a gun to steal -- J.R.'s groove -- Yes.
